17. The Signs of Post Partum Depression (PPD) with Megan Kramer
Show Notes

In this episode, working mom Megan Kramer shares her story about post partum depression (PPD). When Megan and her partner learned they were pregnant with their son, they were ecstatic. Like most pregnant moms, she spent a lot of time educating herself on pregnancy, birth, and even post partum care. She was surprised at the lack of information that was out there on post partum mental health.

After spending a few days in the NICU, Megan was finally reunited with her baby but to her surprise, she felt no connection to him. Megan was suffering from post partum depression and she's not alone. Post partum depression doesn't feel the same for everyone and symptoms vary person to person.

In this episode, we talk about:

  • Megan's post partum depression story
  • Megan's experience with her baby having colic
  • When Megan recognized the signs of post partum depression
  • How her partner helped her
  • What helped Megan cope with PPD
  • PPD screenings at doctor appointments
  • Lina's experience with post-partum anxiety (PPA)

According to the CDC, these are the symptoms of post partum depression

  • Crying more often than usual.
  • Feelings of anger.
  • Withdrawing from loved ones.
  • Feeling numb or disconnected from your baby.
  • Worrying that you will hurt the baby.
  • Feeling guilty about not being a good mom or doubting your ability to care for the baby.

Depression is a chemical imbalance and is treatable! Depression is not your fault and you can get help. If you think you might be depressed, talk to your healthcare provider for treatment and support!
